6. How accurate are property lines?

Itasca County strives to represent parcel boundaries correctly, however, the interactive map is not survey grade accuracy and does not serve as a replacement for a survey. For more information contact us at 218-327-2854.

7. I have a question about a parcel in Itasca County. Where can I get help?

Many parcel questions can be answered by utilizing the online map application.
Responsibility for parcel data is shared between the Survey & Mapping Department and the Assessor’s Department. For questions regarding the shape and location of the property, contact the Surveying & Mapping Department. For questions regarding information associated with the parcels (ex. 1. How do I get my property surveyed?

The Itasca County Surveyor does not perform private surveys. We do not provide recommendations or lists of private sector Surveyors. Many times they are advertised on the internet or in the yellow pages. It may be beneficial to know if any survey firms have performed work in the area of your property. 2. My neighbor had his property surveyed. May I obtain a copy?

Private surveys are by ordinance to be filed with the Itasca County Surveyor, and are available for public inspection. Private surveys are considered to carry a copyright and copies cannot be made. There are a few instances where the surveyor performing the survey, has given permission for copies of his/her survey to be copied. For more information contact us at 218-327-2854.

3. What if my survey discloses deed overlaps, encroachments or other problems?

It is not uncommon to discover during the survey process that there are existing fence or building encroachments or other problems. There are many methods of resolving property line disputes, the most expensive of which is resolution before a court of law.

More congenial resolutions require the cooperation of both parties; creation of an easement, adjustment of a property line, even maintaining the status quo are among the options to be considered.
