  • Graduated from Grand Rapids High School
  • B.A. degrees from the College of St. Catherine in Chemistry and German including a year of study at the University of Munich, Germany.

Accomplishments:

  • Active in 4-H;  received awards at the county and state fair for projects and livestock

  • Began professional career as a research laboratory technician with the USFS Forest Sciences Lab in Grand Rapids and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Shagawa Lake Eutrophication Project in Ely.
  • Married 19 years, raised three children on a homestead farm in Arbo Township, survived as a single parent successfully bringing them through adolescence into adulthood.
  • Managed family farm and herd of beef cattle, assisted with operation and maintenance of family resort
  • Customer service representative for Treasure Bay Printing
  • Religious education teacher for St. Joseph's, sub teacher and ski coach for Grand Rapids High School

Accomplishments on the Board:

  • Served as 2007 Chair of the County Board and Regional Rail Authority
  • Continued county support for Minnesota Steel Project
  • Initiated ARDC Regional Readiness and Housing Assessment
  • Updated Comprehensive Land Use Plan
  • Secured funding for Edge of the Wilderness Discovery Center and Bigfork Airport
  • Maintained flow of communication to citizens and facilitated public input
  • Worked in cooperation with U.S. Forest Service and DNR to designate ATV trails
  • Supported county communication towers and expanded cell phone coverage
  • Prioritized setting and meeting goals for timber harvest and reforestation
  • Itasca Development Corporation Jobs 2020 Action Teams
  • 2003: Worked successfully with ARDC to get JOBZ designation for the seven county region
  • 2004: Initiated Lakes Management Action Team (Lakes 2020)
  • Participant in Governor's Clean Water Initiative North Central Lakes Pilot Project: a collaboration of five counties 
  • Supported funding for Arrowhead Emergency Medical Services Assn. 
  • Supported acceptance of federal grant for Advocates for Family Peace ($500,000) 
  • Supported use of dedicated Health Funds for local prevention projects.
  • Supported continued funding for 4-H, Extension and Forestry Educator.
