SPRING ROAD RESTRICTIONS

Updated March 20, 2007

Itasca County follows MnDot’s Spring Road Restrictions.

CURRENT STATUS OF SPRING LOAD RESTRICTIONS

SPRING ROAD RESTRICTION WILL BEGIN

TUESDAY, MARCH 13, 2007 At 12:01 am

In Both the North Central Zone and North Zone

Spring Road Restrictions are set based on the type of weather we have in early spring.  Starting dates are set on very short notice since 2002 and are based on existing conditions plus 3-day weather forecast.  It is the responsibility of the truck operator to frequently check the MnDot recorded message, telephone 651-366-5400 or toll free 1-800-723-6543, as well as,

Internet Web site:

www.mrr.dot.state.mn.us/research/seasonal_load_limits/sllindex.asp

NEW for 2004:  The Former NORTH ZONE has been divided into TWO Zones, a NORTH CENTAL ZONE and a NORTH ZONE.

The Boundary Between these Two Zones is U.S. Hwy #2; which means that Itasca County is Divided into Two Different Zones and Possibly Two Different Starting Dates for Road Restrictions.  Please Study this situation to determine how it affects you.

MnDot has designated some state highways as 10 ton routes.  The County has only two such routes:

CSAH 62, from TH 2 Cohasset to the Cohasset Landfill (3.5 mi)
CSAH 63, from TH 2 Grand RApids to CSAH 76 (1 mi)

All County and town roads are by law automatically reduced to 5-Ton Axle Limit, unless posted otherwise or changed by local ordinance, at the same time.

Spring Road Restrictions start on State Trunk Highways, as noted on the recorded phone message above, and the WEB site.  Call 218-723-2803 to get a Spring Road Restrictions Map, which shows postings on State Trunk Highways, as well as zone boundaries.

As changes are made, the WEB site will be changed.  Thank you for checking and please drive safety.
