About Itasca County Highway Engineering...
The Itasca County Highway Department is responsible for maintaining appox. 1,800 miles of roadway, including contracted township roads and 140 bridges. The department also can be directly or indirectly involved with the maintenance of roadways under the jurisdiction of the 15 cities, 42 organized townships and the 37 unorganized townships in the county.

The County Engineer, through his staff, is responsible for the administration of both the highway maintenance division and the highway construction division.

The maintenance division consists of approx. 90 employees, divided between 5 maintenance districts and a central purchasing and repair garage. These employees are responsible for graveling, grading, drainage, signing, snow removal, ice control, equipment repair and minor road improvements.

The construction division consists of approx. 10 employees and is responsible for the design and construction administration of all contracted road and bridge improvement projects.
