What is the procedure for purchasing firewood and firewood bundles from the probation department?
First the order has to be placed and payed for at the Itasca County Probation Department located at 115 NE 5th Street (north of the Itasca County Courthouse). Payment can be made either by check, money order, or credit card. Please note: No cash payments can be receipted for firewood purchases. Per Minnesota State Statute and Minnesota Department of Revenue guidelines pertaining to taxation, all firewood/firewood bundles are taxable unless the customer provides a written statement that the firewood/firewood bundles is for residential heating purposes. Written statements are available at the Itasca County Probation Department.

Upon payment, a 2-part receipt will be issued by the office and the pickup then needs to be coordinated with the work crew foreman (259-5594). Home heating firewood and larger orders of campfire bundles are to be picked up at 1177 LaPrairie Avenue W, LaPrairie, MN. Firewood bundle orders under 10 bundles can be picked up directly at the Itasca County Probation Department. The program does not deliver firewood/firewood bundles to general public. The exception is if a firewood bundle order exceeds 100 bundles. At no time can firewood orders be picked up without the crew foreman present or without the 2-part receipt.
