In order to promote the largest applicant pool, the Administrative Services Department shall complete the following information for the purpose of the public announcement for the creation of an eligibility list per the classification listed. Public announcements shall be posted at least ten (10) days prior to the closing date, and public announcements shall be posted in the following locations: official newspaper of the County, Department of Jobs and Training, Itasca County Social Services, Itasca County Veteran=s Service, official personnel bulletin board in the Coordinator/Human Resources Department, Leech Lake Indian Reservation, etc., but is not limited to these locations.

CURRENT VACANCY EXISTS IN: One Regular F/T position in the Land Department
DUTIES:
A. Facility Maintenance:
1. Perform day to day maintenance of park facilities and in absence of County Park
System Manager, lead seasonal crews in maintenance to include: maintain and clean
park facilities (sanitation buildings, vault toilets, picnic areas, group camp, etc.),
remove garbage from all areas, pick up and dispose of litter, mow grass, brushing,
painting, tree removal, landscape work, bike trail maintenance, ski trail grooming,
forest and park road maintenance.
B. Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
1. Operate and maintain equipment such as Posi-Track and attachments, 5 yard dump
truck with equipment trailer, lawn mower, etc.
2. Document all equipment maintenance.
C. Project Implementation:
1. Assist Park System Manager with layout and design of new projects such as bike trails,
public water accesses, forest and park access roads, OHV trails, dispersed campsites,
park improvements.
2. Organize supplies and equipment needed for projects, and implement and evaluate
projects for completion, (follow up).
D. Shop Maintenance:
1. Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe shop complex.
2. Inventory and document all supplies and tools owned by the Park System.
E. Crew Leader:
1. Assist Park System Manager with seasonal crew interviews, orientation, project and
safety training.
2. Complete and submit project status reports.
F. Perform other duties as delegated.
G. Regular attendance on the job.
WORK HOURS: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 4:30 pm, overtime as necessary and approved.
WORK LOCATION: Itasca County Land Department, 1177 LaPrairie Avenue, Grand Rapids, MN 55744
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a high school graduate OR equivalent; have 1.5 years work experience in the operation and maintenance of outdoor recreation facilities and equipment OR one (1) year post secondary education in Parks and Recreation or closely related field (must attach transcript) AND six (6) months work experience in the operation and maintenance of outdoor recreation facilities and equipment; valid Class A Commercial Driver=s License; education (must attach transcript) and/or experience using personal computers; experience using chainsaws, brush saws, power and hand tools. Successfully pass a physical examination and pre-placement screen and pre-employment controlled substances test (under the Federal Drug and Alcohol Testing Law), all contingent upon job offer.
Must be in good physical condition. Must be able to work independently, take initiative and have excellent public relations skills. Ability to work well with others; ability and willingness to follow rules and procedures; to follow directives from supervisors.
Preference for: education (must attach transcript) and /or additional work experience in operation and maintenance of outdoor recreation facilities and equipment beyond the minimums; work experience operating various equipment (dump truck, crawler dozer, trailers, ASV Posi Track, front-end loader, riding lawnmower, power saws); experience interpreting maps, aerial photos, construction plans, blueprints; experience or education (must attach transcript) in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Windows 95 or newer; experience leading seasonal crews; work experience or personal/volunteer experience such as an active member of snowmobile clubs/ATV clubs and the outdoor work they do.
