There are vacancies on the following Itasca County Boards, Committees and Commissions.  Interested persons may apply to the Itasca County Administrative Services Office, Courthouse, Grand Rapids. BOWSTRING AIRPORT COMMISSION

Function: To exercise authority and have power to delegate specific resolutions or ordinances duly adopted by the Commission.  Also to maintain and service the airport as the Commission sees fit. To prepare and recommend to the County Board a proposed annual budget to carry out the commission's responsibilities as to the Bowstring Airport.  To determine appropriate need for construction, enlargement, and improvement of said airport..  

Qualifications: Members need to be approved by the Airport Commissioners with a 2/3 vote and recommended to the County Board.

Compensation:   Mileage.


EXTENSION COMMITTEE

Function: The University of Minnesota Extension Itasca County is an outreach arm of the University of Minnesota that provides research based education to people of all ages throughout the County, in cooperation with County, State, Federal and private partners.  Extension's Mission is "Making a difference by connecting community needs and University resources to address critical issues in Minnesota."  

Qualifications: Resident of Itasca County; Commitment to regularly attend quarterly committee meetings; willingness to serve one three-year term (preferred but not mandated); access to e-mail for committee mailings (preferred but not mandated) interest in educational programs offered by Extension.

Compensation:   Mileage; expenses for out-of-town trips.


HOUSING AND REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

Function: Commissioners serve as the governing officers of the HRA, which functions as a developer, landlord, and administrator of state and federal housing programs.  Commissioners provide leadership, adopt policies governing the operations of the HRA, and ensure that HRA programs operate within the law and according to regulation.  Commissioners establish goals to address housing needs in Itasca County to ensure the availability of decent, safe and sanitary places for residents to live.

Qualifications: Resident of Itasca County:  membership is based on a geographical basis; knowledgeable in housing needs of the county.

Compensation:   Mileage; $50.00 per diem.


NURSING HOME BOARD

Function: Board‑level management and direction of the Itasca Nursing Home d.b.a. Grand Village and responsibility for all matters relating thereto.

Qualifications: An interest in Itasca Nursing Home d.b.a. Grand Village and the health care delivery of Itasca County.  Must be a county resident and at least 21 years of age.

Compensation:   $25.00 per diem, plus mileage.

Function:

1. To serve as an advisory body providing recommendations to the County Commissioners and Park and Recreation Director on matters pertaining to the planning, programming, prioritizing, evaluating and funding of park and recreation facilities and programs.

2. To serve as a coordinating body for the recreation needs of all citizens.

3. To encourage and promote development of recreation facilities and services.

4. To work together with public land managers.  

Qualifications: Resident of Itasca County ; interested in and/or knowledgeable of resource-related recreational activities of the County and/or in the economic impact of recreational activities on Itasca County .  

Compensation:   Mileage.


PERSONNEL BOARD OF APPEALS

Function:  Make findings and report to the Board of Commissioners on written appeals regarding Itasca County personnel administration and filed by an applicant, employee, or appointing authority; establish procedures for methods and timetables for appeals to the Board.  

Qualifications: Be a resident of Itasca County ; shall not hold county office or be a candidate for a county office; not be an employee of the county.  

Compensation:   $25.00 per diem, plus mileage.


PLANNING COMMISSION AND BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT

Function: Responsible for implementing Itasca County Ordinance relative to holding public hearings before any zoning ordinance text amendment, zoning map amendment, conditional use permit/revocation, preliminary planned unit development application, preliminary subdivision, variance or other appeal(s) may be approved or recommended for approval. Monthly or semi-monthly site inspections/hearings.  

Qualifications:

  • Resident of Itasca County .
  • Not a current elected officer of the County nor any employee of the Board of Commissioners.
  • During two years prior to appointment, said member shall not have received a substantial portion of his income from business operations involving the development of land within the County.
  • At least two regular members shall reside in the unincorporated area of the County.
  • Knowledge and interest of county functions.
  • Background in community related services.
  • Ability to make on site inspections.

Compensation:  Per diem plus mileage for meetings and site inspections. (Rate established by County Board .)


SHERIFF CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION

FUNCTION: To adhere to the rules of the Sheriff Civil Service Commission; to recommend changes to the rules for approval by the County Board; to hold tests for recruiting applicants for jobs in the Sheriff's Department.  

QUALIFICATIONS:  Resident of Itasca County ; cannot hold a public office except as a Notary Public, nor serve on any state or county board.

WATER PLAN IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE

FUNCTION: To provide direction and oversight to the Itasca County Water Plan.  Meets 6 times yearly.  Develops annual workplan and budget for county approval..  

QUALIFICATIONS:  One member is appointed by the County Board from each County Commissioner District, plus one member from each of the following interested groups:  Planning Commission, Township Officers Association, Soil and Water Conservation District, Coalition of Lake Associations, Conservation Group (Isaac Walton or Audubon or other), Rapids 2000 and the Resort and Tourism Association..  

COMPENSATION:   Per Diem, mileage and expenses..
