Transportation

 The Highway Department is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the Itasca County highway system.  That system includes approximately 1,350 miles of roadway and 140 bridges (including township bridges). The department also can be directly or indirectly involved with the maintenance of roadways under the jurisdiction of the 16 cities and 39 organized townships in the county.


Maintenance Division:

 The maintenance division consists of approximately 76 employees, divided between five maintenance districts and a central purchasing and repair garage. These employees are responsible for graveling, grading, drainage, signing, snow removal, ice control, equipment repair and minor road improvements.


Construction Division:

 The construction division consists of approximately 10 employees and is responsible for the design and construction administration of all contracted road and bridge improvement projects.
